and thunderstorm activity is out of here after providing some of us fireworks during the evening hours and we are left with warm temperatures. didn't really cool us down a whole lot. 74-degree at reagan national. 67 in baltimore. 67 out at dulles. you get the idea here, these temperatures much warmer than they've been the last couple of mornings. 67 in winchester. the shower and thunderstorm activity was kind of spotty in nature, kind of isolated. some of us got some pretty big storms. that has slipped off the coast. the morning fog will burn off and we'll be left with a hot and humid one this afternoon with once again temperatures jumping into the 90s. remember, it is the first full day of fall. our average high temperature is in the upper 70s and we are talking about 90s. mother nature is not willing to give up on summer quite eighty. highs later this afternoon with lots of sunshine in the low 90s. 91 here in town and just hot. not expecting a shower and/or thunderstorm activity later today. so it will be a quiet one. >> let's see if it is quiet out o

capitol dome in the night sk things are heating up, but tom reminds us it is fall, it's not quite the same as a summer day. >> the heat only lts for a few hours in the middle part of the afternoon. unlike the summertime it's hot from 10:00 in the morning until 8:00 in the evening. it is going to be getting above 90 by midafternoon. a mild morning on this thursday morning. good morning, right now we've got a clear sky, storms are all gone and temperatures are generally in the 60s throughout much of the region. it's in the low 70s in washington and right near the chesapeake bay and the atlantic beaches. in the mountains of western maryland, west virginia this morning, weatherwatchers reporting it in the 50s to near 60 there. and around virginia's tide water and the lower eastern shore in the upper 60s. over the last 12 hours the storms have dissipated and a weak area of high pressure holding for us from maine down to georgia. and we'll have this dry pattern, and the excessive heat continuing tay and tomorrow. now today's record is 98. we probably won't be near that. but likely near or perhap

talked with u.s. park police. they say rock creek drive at beach drive is also closed. you know about this. if you are familiar with the area, it is for your commute. and it tends to be one of the first to flood. keep in mind out here on the roadways, areas of standing water, that you are probably going to be familiar with on your commute any too time, you are going to see standing water there as well. be careful. let's take another look at roads -- i'll actually toss it back to you in the studio. >> our other big story a deadly tour bus accident on i-270 in montgomery county is under investigation this morning. some police say the bus veered off a sky ramp and plunged 45 feet for the lanes below. the driver, 66-year-old joseph clabaugh, jr. died at the scene. twelve people were hospitalized, 11 on the bus and one on the ground. the bus was towed tie montgomery county police impound lot for further inspection. the ntsb is also looking into this accident. >>> we are following a double shooting late last night in southeast d.c. this happened on 2 #nd street near savannah street not far

in august. august isn't what it used to be in terms of a back to school month for retailers. it is spread out now. a lot of schools start earlier in the south so retails from the end of june, begunking of july through september is back to school. it is spread out a little bit. it is still a huge month. we get best buy earnings today as well. so it is important to see if people are spending on high end items like big korean tvs as well. >> as you mentioned a minute ago, the recession, there has been a lot of concern abouts a double dip recession but the oracle of omaha has spoken and apparently some people say we should be listening to what he has to say. >> when warren buffett speaks, people do tend to listen. he has medicine a little bit of money in the marketplace and knows which way the wind is blowing. he didn't see a double dip recession. he spoke at an economic conference yesterday and said look, we've hired more people in the last couple of months. our businesses, and he owns a lot of businesses an he has a lot of money in a lot of different companies, says things are looking good
